в компиляторах - характеристика порядка, в котором следует выполнять операции с одинаковым приоритетом (старшинством, operator precedence). Например, рядом стоящие операции возведения в степень выполняются справа налево: a^b^c = a^(b^c), т. е. данная операция правоассоциативна (right associative). Если операция выполняется слева направо, то она левоассоциативна (left associative).
